Farmopolis

Detached from the Greenwich Peninsula by a floating walkway, Farmopolis offers a different perspective of the city one rarely finds despite London’s miles of waterway. For this reason alone it’s worth popping by, but don’t expect porterhouse steaks and wing back arm chairs, this is an eco experience.

It’s not bursting with plant life like the Kew Glass Houses, but that’s not the intention, nor the point. It’s ambition to recycle flower-show plants and give them a new life and a new setting is admirable, they’re raising awareness in a subtle way. If i lived near-by and had kids, we’d definitely call in to one of their daytime activities.

It’s modest and simple vibe, juxtaposed against the back-drop of The City is easy on the soul and offers a multi-use space that caters for all times of the day. Outside is a terrace with swinging lanterns hanging over the dark moody Thames – for me this was the memorable highlight. We were there for drinks and canapés which were both excellent. The staff were plentiful and friendly and whilst the venue lends itself well to a party, watch out for the composting toilets!
